Public Meetings and Webcasts
Biennial Transmission Planning Webcasts
Every two years, Minnesota utilities host webcasts to
inform the public about transmission needs in
each of the six transmission planning zones in the state.
Here are the presentations, delivered via webcast in September
2009, on electric transmission
planning and electric transmission projects in Minnesota.
General Planning Meetings
The public is invited to join representatives from area utilities
in meetings to discuss the electric transmission system in Minnesota
and the Upper Midwest. Please check back periodically for meeting notices.
Discussion will focus on identifying problems with the existing
system in meeting the demand for electricity in the area and possible solutions,
including possible new transmission projects. A synopsis of public comments
from the meeting will be included in a Biennial State Transmission Plan the
utilities will submit to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC)
every odd-numbered year. The Plan will also include a list of transmission
lines each utility is requesting certification from the MPUC to build. The
MPUC will provide opportunity for public comment on the Plan.
The Office of Energy Security and MPUC review all transmission lines submitted
for certification for environmental, need and route review. The MPUC wil
approve, modify or deny the certification request for each transmission project
included in the plan.
